Chevening

February 25, 2016 - The British Embassy Amman and the Queen Rania Foundation for Education and Development (QRF), signed an MOU to provide funding for up to five Chevening scholarships. The intention of the scholarships is to enable Jordanian students to study for a one-year Master’s degree in the UK in the fields of education, development, public policy, economics and creative disciplines. Her Majesty’s Ambassador Edward Oakden and Haifa Dia Al-Attia, the Chief Executive Officer of the Queen Rania Foundation, signed the MOU at the Ambassador’s Residence in Amman.

The Chevening Queen Rania Foundation Scholarships will be open to nationals of Jordan, who are resident in the country at the time of applying for the scholarship. The five recipients of the scholarship will be chosen from the Chevening application round (which ended in November 2015), to begin their studies in the UK in Autumn 2016.

Ambassador Oakden welcomed the partnership: “We greatly appreciate the generosity of QRF in funding these scholarships for Jordanians wishing to study a Masters in the UK. Chevening is the British Government’s premier scholarship to develop young global leaders. It offers a unique opportunity for future leaders, influencers, and decision-makers from all over the world to develop professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture, and build lasting positive relationships with the UK. We have already high quality applications for this year’s round and we look forward to awarding these outstanding scholarships to the successful Jordanian candidates.”

Haifa Dia Al-Attia, the Chief Executive Officer of the Queen Rania Foundation: “We are very excited to partner with the British Embassy and at the prospect of giving Jordanian students a chance to receive a top- level education through this Master’s degree scholarship, enabling them to develop their leadership skills at distinguished universities in the UK. With a focus on the fields of education, development, public policy, economics and creative disciplines, this will develop future leaders and influencers who promote positive change and it will allow us to create educational and professional empowerment and bring together talent and opportunity for the benefit of Jordan.”
