Reading Motivation and Support Scale

0

As national efforts to strengthen reading skills in Jordan continue to expand, there remains a pressing need for tools that measure not only what students read, but also why they read—and what motivates and sustains their engagement. The Reading Motivation and Support Scale was developed to fill this gap through a culturally grounded tool designed specifically for Arabic-speaking contexts. It captures motivational, and environmental factors that shape students’ reading habits.

The tool was developed by the Queen Rania Foundation (QRF), the Ministry of Education in Jordan, and the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF), with funding from EEF, the BHP Foundation, and QRF.

Its development involved technical workshops, systematic literature reviews, multiple rounds of refinement, field testing, and statistical validation to ensure reliability and accuracy. The process was guided by an academic advisory group of experts, including Prof. Rob Coe, Dr. Fabian Schmidt, Rawan Awwad, Haneen AlAbed, and Dr. Matteo Rava, along with a technical team from the Ministry of Education.
